Swedish Biogas
TV clip from Mankato

In Sweden we want to stand out as a country that leads world as to usage of bioenergy in the bioenergy system. About 25% of all energy we are using comes from bioenergy, almost 10 TWh of all electricity that is produced in the country comes from districtheating power plants heated with bioenergy. We are also far ahead as to biogas and environment- friendly vehicles. About 15% of all new cars sold in the Sweden today are environmentally certified.
But also other countries are at the front line. In USA today fuel cells are made which are generating electricity with biogas as fuel. They have equipment for gasification which in comparatively small-scale is converting waste-products to gaseous as well as liquid fuel. In Europe the low taxes on fuel oil have accelerated the development of pellet heating technology with the same comfort as oil-heating. For the same reason the growing interest for use of the surplus from the agricultural production for energy has started the development of new exciting products and business areas.
It seems that the high world-market prices of oil and gas have come to stay. The climatic effects of the usage of fossil fuel will also appear more clearly for most people and more and more countries realize that something has to be done – and that it must be done immediately. All this together is contributing to that the use of renewable energy sources is increasing all of the world. EU has estimated that only in 2006 there will be about 240 000 new jobs in renewable energy technology and that at least half of these will be within bioenergy.
SACC’s E-days, which this year will have Lidköping as a host city will be the greatest arrangement so far in order to promote business between Sweden and USA. Probably more than 600 delegates will visit Lidköping during the period 21-25 of August. In the Bioenergy-cluster we have extended the invitation to also include a Euopean-Amerian perspective. This means that there will be guest from both far and near who want to do business with Swedish companies and products. For more information See Website: www.sacc-usa.org/lidkoping2006
There is a great interest from the press for an arrangement of this size. This is also a chance for the bioenergy branch to be exposed by the press and a chance to show the world that Sweden is the leading nation in bioenergy. But if we will does not show we do not exist and the world around us will soon be ahead.
